Financial Crisis: Experts warn
against protectionist

Trade ministers of the G20 countries will probably try to make a new effort towards a successful completion of the Doha-Round before the end of this year. With regard to this meeting, 17 leading international trade economists headed by Simon J. Evenett (University of St.Gallen) and Richard Baldwin (The Graduate Institute, Geneva) appeal to world leaders not to resort to protectionist measures when fighting the financial crisis. Such an appeal is called for, as "burgeoning protectionism threatens the progress made in a quarter-century of trade negotiations", Mr Evenett. says. A copy of the publication can be retrieved here.
